Analyst translates Coach Prime’s challenge to his Colorado Buffaloes
Coach Prime’s post-Week 7 Stanford loss call-out of his Colorado football team was not one akin to his verbal attacks on CU’s 2022 roster, but rather a challenge to his Buffs to find their inner love for the game, as opposed to showing a baseline admiration of the sport — this, at least, according to Mike Farrell of Mike Farrell Sports.
“As a coach, you need to challenge and motivate your players constantly,” Farrell prefaced before saying, “And that shows in many different ways. Personally, I think Deion was challenging his team to want it more and not be complacent after building a big lead. If you ‘like’ football you relax, if you ‘love’ it with a passion, you are always striving to get better. At least that’s what I think he was doing.
“I’ve been critical of Deion because I just see so many hypocritical things over and over from him as a coach. And I’ll continue to point those things out as you can’t be labeled as altruistic by so many but be so self-absorbed as well. But in this case, I think he wants his team to want it more. And it’s that simple.”
Colorado football facing a do-or-die final five weeks of the season
Coach Prime’s challenge needs to be met with enthusiasm, even if winning more than two games isn’t necessary to deem this season’s final three quarters a success. The 3-0 start has seen all its luster wear off after the Stanford loss, and the backend of the Buffs’ schedule is tougher than the front end minus Oregon and USC.
With Travis Hunter healthy again after a liver scare and Shilo Sanders no longer dealing with a kidney scare of his own, Colorado has a full deck for the stacked slate ahead. This roster needs to heed Deion Sanders’ words before he starts asking them to jump into the transfer portal like the 2022 roster.
