Highlight-reel Colorado football transfer Xavier Weaver was named “Top Offensive Player Not Named Shedeur Sanders” by Buffaloes Wire’s Jack Carlough — who called No. 10 the “clear No. 1 option” for Coach Prime’s quarterback son.
“Xavier Weaver, who was named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list on Wednesday, has been the most consistent and dominant offensive player not named Shedeur Sanders,” Carlough prefaced before saying, “Several other players have all had their moments, but Weaver is the clear No. 1 so far with 631 receiving yards and six total touchdowns.”
Following a one-touchdown, 196-yard debut against USC on September 30, it appeared as though freshman Omarion Miller would become Shedeur’s new favorite target. Amassing just one catch and nine yards since, though, while Weaver went for 124 yards and two receiving touchdowns — not to mention a rushing tuddy for good measure — against Stanford on October 13 to solidify his standing at the top of the wideout totem pole.
Shedeur Sanders ripped for posting during halftime of eventual Colorado football loss to Stanford
ESPN First Take’s Stephen A. Smith ripped Shedeur on October 16 for allowing his social media team to post an advertisement on an Instagram story during halftime of Week 7’s shocking comeback win for Stanford at Colorado’s expense.
“The players got caught up in the shine their coach generated, and I’m calling out his son Shedeur Sanders, who I love, and I think has star written all over him,” Smith said (h/t New York Post). “But whether it was you, or by accident and it was somebody on your social media team, you cannot have something being posted at halftime of a damn game.
“Show up, stand up, because your daddy and to the players on the squad, your coach, as much swag and bravado as he had, he was the best on the planet. Week-in and week-out you knew Deion Sanders was the best probably ever. Y’all aren’t on that level. Stop acting like it!”
Even if Sanders is hogging the spotlight, the scouts at the games won’t be missing out on the spectacular plays Weaver makes after being put in a position to do big things by Coach Prime’s polarizing son.
