Coach Prime sent a loving message to Colorado football offensive tackle Savion Washington, who missed the Buffs’ narrow Week 6 victory over ASU and their last game, a second-hand collapse that resulted in a double-overtime loss to Stanford, ahead of his expected return against UCLA on October 28 — predicting an NFL future for the recruit whose story Deion Sanders feels represents the entire team.

“He looks good — he practiced (Monday),” Sanders said (h/t BuffZone). “I don’t know if he made it through the whole practice, but he did what he set out to do, so he accomplished his goal. But that kid is tough mentally, physically. He’s a dawg. He’s a future pro.

“I love all of them, but he’s one of the kids I’m very fond of, and I love his story. And I just love what he represents for us. He wants to play. The time that he was injured and he had to leave the game, I mean, he was sobbing because he wanted it that bad. I detected love in his heart and his mind and his spirit that particular game that he couldn’t go any farther. I can’t wait to see him back. Helps us tremendously on the line.”

Status of Colorado football LB Juwan Mitchell still unclear

Sanders gave no tangible update on the absence of linebacker Juwan Mitchell, who’d only offer cryptic advice for Mitchell to get his act together off the field.

“He has to get it together off the field,” Coach Prime prefaced before saying, “Not just on the field, but off the field. That’s it.”

Even stranger than Coach Prime being so coy about Mitchell’s status is the great Brian Howell not getting a pulse on a Mitchell scoop either.

“CU’s leading tackler through five games, Mitchell has apparently been disciplined by the coaching staff for some sort of violation,” Howell prefaced before saying, “He was in uniform for CU’s game at Arizona State on Oct. 7, but didn’t play, and wasn’t in uniform for the Buffs’ last game, Oct. 13 against Stanford.”
