Colorado football career rushing leader No. 8: Chris Brown 2001-2002

  • 2,787 rushing yards
  • 35 rushing touchdowns
  • 5.7 yards per rush

Gary Barnett originally recruited Brown to Northwestern, but once Barnett left for Colorado, Brown still signed with the Wildcats. Northwestern’s coaching staff wanted to move him to receiver, so he left to play junior college football for a season before transferring to Colorado.

Barnett’s efforts in recruiting paid off with two outstanding seasons. Brown ran for 946 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2001, averaging 5.0 yards per carry. He was sixth in the Big 12 in rushing. The next year was special.

Brown dominated as a junior in 2002 running for 1,841 yards and 19 touchdowns on 6.1 yards a carry. He was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, was fourth in the country in rushing, and finished eighth in Heisman Trophy voting.
