Travis Hunter’s impact on the Colorado football program has been indelible. The former five-star high school football recruit has lived up to all expectations and his dominance on the defensive side of the ball can make him an all-time great in college — and potentially an all-time great at the next level too.

Right now Hunter is a young 20-year-old who just wants to compete and give his all on every play. The concern with No. 12 right now, though, is all of the snaps he plays on both the defensive and offensive end.

He may burn himself out and do damage to his playing career before he gets to the next level at the rate he’s at.

Colorado football must save Travis Hunter from himself

Hunter is a very young man and probably feels that he is invincible at the moment, but right now, it is time for Colorado to save No. 12 from his own competitive nature.

His impact on the defensive side of the ball is more than enough. He should step aside from playing on offense and just commit to defense.

Hunter already missed time during the year due to a lacerated liver injury caused by a dirty hit while he was running a route as a wideout. Right now, his star is on the rise, had he must stay on the field because the best ability will always be his availability.

Coach Prime needs to sit down with him and let him know that he has the potential to be one of the best players to ever do it if he hasn’t already. He just has to commit fully to defense and know that he can take rest for his body when his team is on offense.

The concerns for Hunter burning out are real and legitimate. As the season continues to go on that is just more wear and tear on his body. Too often no one realizes something is doing damage until it is too late. Right now it is time for Travis to take it easy and think about his career because the end goal is to get to that next level and show the world who he can become.

If Hunter can stay healthy, he will be recognized as one of the greatest college football players ever. If Travis Hunter finds a way to remain healthy and not burn out at the next level he could be remembered as one of the greatest to ever do it.
