Star Colorado transfer ‘not even in same class’ as elites at position
Coach Prime’s star Colorado football son Shedeur Sanders is “not even in the same class” as the elites at the quarterback position, USC’s Caleb Williams and UNC’s Drake Maye, according to Mike Farrell of Mike Farrell Sports — who was feverishly objecting to ESPN’s Matt Miller listing Shedeur over Maye in his latest prospect rankings.
“I like Matt Miller from ESPN and respect his rankings often, but what is he thinking? He recently ranked Sanders at No. 5 overall and as the No. 2 QB in the draft (behind Caleb Williams) ahead of Maye, who he has at No. 6,” Farrell prefaced before asking, “Why? He points to Sanders’ precision and accuracy and his ability under pressure. And while those things are evident he’s missing the fact that Sanders holds onto the ball too long — way too long. And NFL QBs who do this always fail. Until Sanders anticipates the rush better, he’s not even a first-rounder to me. I know his OL stinks, as his dad pointed out, but any high draft pick is going to a team with a weak OL. I’ll take Maye over Williams, and I’m not even considering Sanders in the same class as the two.”
Through Week 9 of the 2023 season, Williams is ahead of Sanders by nine passing yards and three passing touchdowns. Maye has 78 fewer passing yards and six fewer touchdowns than Sanders. Are we sure they aren’t in the same class?
Shedeur Sanders will have greater 2024 season with Colorado football than Caleb Williams or Drake Maye will have in 2023
Once the offensive line is fixed in Boulder, Coach Prime’s youngest son is going to be slinging even more touchdowns and highlight-reel downfield passes. Sanders may surpass both Williams and Maye’s 2023 season in 2024. He may surpass them both this season for all we know.
But the doubts for No. 2 will subside once he finally has capable protection up front. And it’s going to happen soon.
