Mike Farrell, the “Godfather of Recruiting” and the mastermind behind Mike Farrell Sports, demonized the demotion of offensive coordinator Sean Lewis from his play-calling duties in favor of Colorado football quality and control coach Pat Shurmur — claiming that unless there’s something bigger going on behind the scenes, this move means Deion Sanders is “not head coach material.”

“Deion is an absolute fool for demoting Sean Lewis unless there’s something we don’t know,” Farrell prefaced before saying, “If this is personal then it shows he’s just not head coach material.”

As for what could be going on behind the scenes, Denver Sports’ Jake Shapiro has quite the theory as to what could be a follow-up move.

Analyst believes Sean Lewis can replace Deion Sanders as Colorado football head coach

Shapiro believes that based on the way the team has handled recruiting, there’s a possibility that Lewis could eventually be “built up” to replace Coach Prime at the helm of the Buffs whenever the 56-year-old does move on from Boulder.

“Lewis is tied into the Buffs future plans it seems, with the way they have recruited and it was apparent he was being built up as the coach in waiting if Prime decided to leave,” Shapiro wrote.

Ultimately, Coach Prime’s timeline is not known by anyone; perhaps let alone even Sanders himself. But Coach Prime’s manager, Constance Schwartz-Morini, indicated that Colorado could be a long-term stay for Sanders.

“He’s staying,” Schwartz-Morini prefaced before repeating, “He’s staying. He’s staying. Perfect fit. I think he’s having too much fun there. He’s just been able to be who he is really deep down inside, driving his tractor and wearing his cowboy hat.”

A major switch-up midseason is always going to inspire questions as to what’s next. All we know for certain is that the cameras are always rolling in Boulder, so we’ll one day see what led to, and resulted from, this play-calling switch from Coach Prime.
