Mike Farrell Sports’ Rock Westfall doesn’t see Colorado football attaining the Deion Sanders debut season goal of winning six games, and thus, qualifying for a bowl game — instead “having trouble finding two wins” in the Buffs’ stretch-run against Arizona, Wazzu, and Utah.

“Colorado has lost four of its last five games,” Westfall prefaced before saying, “This Saturday brings the home finale against the rolling and bowl-bound Arizona Wildcats. Road games at Washington State and Utah follow. Where Prime finds the two wins needed for bowl eligibility is anyone’s guess.”

Doing the exact thing Coach Prime hates for anyone to do, Westfall then made it personal with Sanders and his Buffs by calling the University of Colorado out for no longer being the host of countless celebrities at Folsom Field.

“Also on the minds of a concerned nation holding its collective breath is where all the celebrities will go now that it’s cold and college football is no longer their favorite sport,” Westfall prefaced before saying, “Well, perhaps the NBA Tournament offers the luminary class warm refuge…”

Goalposts have moved for Colorado football after hot start

Following their 3-0 start, Colorado became christened a contender only by those who either grossly overrated TCU and Nebraska or by those who knew what they were doing in shifting the goalposts and setting up expectations for a program that was never going to meet them.

A bowl game was a fair ask of the Buffs, but losing to Stanford made that a nearly impossible task. In many ways, namely the sportsbooks’ point spreads, CU has overperformed in recent weeks against UCLA and Oregon State.

But they’d have to severely overperform in the final three weeks to upset even two of Arizona, Wazzu, and Utah. The Wildcats have become a Pac-12 dark horse, while Utah looks like the third or fourth-best team in the conference. Wazzu is beatable, but even that will be a challenge on the road.

No matter what happens, just remember that the expectation coming into the season was three wins or less.
