With Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan future up in the air amidst a slew of allegations against his Wolverines program, there could be a top-five coaching job opening up in Ann Arbor — and Mike Farrell Sports’ Mike Huesmann believes that if/when that happens, Colorado football head man Coach Prime’s name would “at least come up” as an option.

“I’ve not written about him as much as my co-workers but on a list of ten for this job, (Coach Prime’s) name would at least come up,” Huesmann prefaced before saying, “Michigan does as good of a job at branding and selling its image as any school, this would capitalize on that. You’re guaranteed to make millions in TV, merchandise, etc. You’ll also be able to have great success in recruiting high school students and using the transfer portal. Deion overhauled the roster in Colorado because he had to. He won’t need to do that here but targeting specific positions and finding the best available guy is something he could excel at.”

Undoubtedly, Deion Sanders coaching Michigan would be a union between one of the sport’s premiere programs in the sport right now and perhaps the biggest lightning rod head coach who’s ever run a college program. But with the multitude scandals the program is dealing with right now — including but not limited to a sign-stealing scandal and a dismissed staffer who was committing sex crimes –, there’s a lot of bad optics that could be paired with taking that job.

Coach Prime would be taking serious career risk leaving Colorado football for Michigan after one year in Boulder

Michigan undoubtedly offers a higher ceiling as a coaching opportunity, but disappointing the maize and blue faithful can tank Coach Prime’s career in a way failing to get Colorado over the hump doesn’t come close to.

Not to mention, ditching Boulder after just a year, this after leaving Jackson State just as the program was starting to be elevated from a SWAC also-ran to a perennial Group of Five powerhouse, could brand Coach Prime as a job-hopper who is not only never content but also incapable of seeing an opportunity through.
