Pac-12 quarterback power rankings: Does Shedeur Sanders crack the top tier?
By Josh Yourish
Pac-12 QB rankings No. 2: Bo Nix
- Passing yards: 2,723
- TD: 25 INT: 2
- Comp: 78.1%
- YPA: 9.0
This version of Bo Nix seemed inconceivable when he was at Auburn. Last year was a step in the right direction, but now Nix is No. 3 in the entire country in QBR and No. 5 in EPA. He’s leading a dominant Oregon offense that features Bucky Irving and Troy Franklin.
Last week, Nix threw for 386 yards and four touchdowns against Cal. That comes after dominating Utah. No team has been able to slow down this offense and that’s why I love Oregon to avenge their loss and win the Pac-12 championship game en route to the College Football Playoff.
With all of that being said, What Bo Nix is doing is not nearly as impressive as what Michael Penix Jr. has done. Bo Nix has an average depth of target of 6.9 yards which is 17th among Pac-12 quarterbacks with at least 50 dropbacks this year. Penix is third at 11.1.
Nobody in the conference has been more accurate on deep balls than Bo Nix with his 57.6% adjusted completion rate but throws over 20 yards make up just 11.1% of his attempts while 28.5% of his attempts are behind the line of scrimmage and 40.3% are within 0-9 yards of the line of scrimmage.
What he’s being asked to do is much easier than what Kalen DeBoer puts on Penix’s shoulders.
