Several users on the X social media platform believe Coach Prime only complimented 5-star Colorado football freshman cornerback Cormani McClain because the Buffs’ locker room leader wants to keep the 5-star Miami flip from entering the transfer portal following the conclusion of the 2023 season.

“Bro is about to hit that portal as soon as possible,” claimed one cynical poster.

“Trying to keep him from hitting the portal,” agreed another.

“Surely this will make sure he doesn’t enter that portal (laughing out loud),” mocked one poster.

“Why didn’t he just redshirt him? Bad move on Colorado’s part,” one poster prefaced before saying, “It’s in his best interest to enter the transfer portal and move on. Colorado recruited other players and No. 10, not this kid, replaced No. 3 at cornerback after the receiver scored a touchdown to end the half last week.”

“Lmao he still leaving… don’t get y’all hopes up,” claimed another.

“Coach isn’t dumb and knows he might lose him to the portal!” exclaimed another.

Coach Prime could have a future star or his first public enemy at the helm of Colorado football

The McClain story likely has two possible endings in Boulder:

  1. McClain becomes a star for the Buffs and a future NFL first-rounder, showing shutdown abilities that Coach Prime always knew the Lakeland star had in him the whole time, or…
  2. McClain hits the transfer portal and immediately becomes public enemy No. 1 to Coach Prime and Co. (and CO)

The first option would be a storybook ending to what has been a polarizing locker room issue for Colorado. The second option would be exactly what all of Coach Prime’s haters would salivate over.

It’s unclear if late-season snaps will be enough to entice McClain not to take his talents elsewhere after he received a DNP in six of his first nine games.
