There was an ounce of doubt from USA Today’s Austin Curtright in his assessment of Coach Prime’s claim that he wouldn’t be leaving Colorado football anytime soon.

“With such success so early into his coaching career, it’s natural to speculate the next move for Colorado football coach Deion Sanders,” Curtright prefaced before saying, “But to the former Jackson State coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer, he’s perfectly content in college — for now.”

The most interesting part of the skepticism is where the piece showed up: The Clarion-Ledger, which is based in Jackson, Mississippi, aka the home to the first collegiate program Deion Sanders said goodbye to, the Jackson State Tigers.

Coach Prime denied using Colorado football as a stepping stone

Sanders unequivocally denied an accusation from a fan on December 26, 2022, that the 56-year-old was using Colorado as a stepping-stone to a program with a bigger brand and more success on the recruiting trail and on the field in recent years.

“The quicker the success the quicker he is gone,” the accuser wrote. “That buyout clause is pretty small. Hope I’m wrong and he stays but I see Prime as using Colorado as a stepping stone. Once again I hope I am wrong and see a strong Colorado for years and years to come.”

That prompted Coach Prime to flex on the Twitter poster and claim that he doesn’t need any money from a potential buyout clause.

“My man we don’t use people, we bless people,” Coach Prime prefaced before saying, “I ain’t been hurting for money since the 80s. Now you had my attention for five seconds that it took me to check you. Obviously, you don’t know me but want to. I Ain’t Hard 2 Find! I love this baby.”

It seems as though most are unwilling to take Sanders at his word regarding “Prime Time” remaining in Boulder for the foreseeable future.

Jackson, Mississippi certainly has the best reason for that.
