Coach Prime’s middle son, Shilo Sanders, has been the “unsung hero” of the Colorado football defense according to BuffsBeat’s J’Mar Smith — who also affectionately called No. 21 the “anchor of the secondary” in his praise.

“While this season was brimming with hope, it has somehow lost its spark,” Smith prefaced before saying, “Even so, one Sanders’ has had an unbelievable season. No, I’m not talking about Shedeur, I’m talking about the anchor of the secondary, safety Shilo Sanders. Sanders has been the unsung hero for a Colorado defense that is ranked in the bottom of their conference.”

On the year, Sanders has the Buffs defense’s lone touchdown of the season: a first-quarter pick-six of Colorado State’s Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi during the Rocky Mountain Showdown on September 16. On a defense that has oftentimes looked completely overmatched by opposing offenses, Sanders has never waivered in showing maximum effort. Even if sometimes he takes things a tad too far.

Coach Prime didn’t definitively shut down leaving Colorado football to coach his sons in the NFL

Coach Prime has oftentimes been resistant to the idea of coaching in the NFL but on the November 7 edition of The Dan Patrick Show, he didn’t completely shut down the idea of being a package deal with both of his sons, Shilo and Shedeur.

“I don’t know,” Coach Prime prefaced before saying, “I’m trying to win a game. I’m not thinking down the street that far. I haven’t thought like that. That’s a great thought process, though.”

The Sanders family will be in Boulder for at least another season, but after 2024, what happens next for Coach Prime and Co. is anyone’s guess. It could well come down to whether or not Deion is having as much fun once his kids leave for the pros and if that passion for coaching Colorado exists without his family by his side.

Deion’s daughter Bossy being on the Buffs women’s basketball team is a plus for Colorado’s prospects of a long-term future with Coach Prime.
