BuffsBeat’s Josh Tolle reported that Coach Prime wouldn’t receive the level of control at Texas A&M he currently has at Colorado football, once again denying that Deion Sanders has any interest in the Aggies’ head coaching job following Jimbo Fisher’s firing.
“Sanders has no interest in coaching at Texas A&M at this point, according to sources,” Tolle wrote. “Let’s say for the sake of conversation that Prime would consider leaving Boulder for College Station. Texas A&M has money but won’t give Sanders absolute control of the program and that’s a problem.”
As Tolle explains, Sanders’ ties to Nike directly conflict with Texas A&M’s partnership with Adidas; throwing another wrench into the Coach Prime-to-College Station plan.
“Sanders recently inked a Nike contract that brings back his Diamond Turf line,” Tolle prefaced before saying, “On the other hand, the Aggies have a partnership with Adidas. Texas A&M officials are too proud of their tradition and wouldn’t appreciate the ‘Prime Effect’ in all its glory. Expect Sanders to be the biggest name linked to every coaching opening in the coming months.”
Stephen A. Smith doesn’t believe Coach Prime can land top talent at Colorado football
Tolle’s report comes in the wake of ESPN overtalking head Stephen A. Smith’s take that the Colorado football program can’t attract the kind of talent needed to make Coach Prime’s Buffs a winner.
“That’s what I’ve been saying, Deion Sanders in the SEC,” Smith said. “With that vault that they have available to them. Them hogs that he could recruit. He doesn’t have them at Colorado, and he ain’t going to get them. I don’t think they’ll do it. Texas A&M. Primetime, Deion Sanders in the SEC? That needs to happen.”
Um, Stephen A., you do know that Coach Prime got the 2022 recruiting class’s No. 1 overall prospect to commit to a SWAC school in Jackson, Mississippi, right?
Colorado will be just fine as long as Coach Prime’s staff is putting in the work and making it clear that — unlike Texas A&M and other SEC programs — CU isn’t a place where the brand always comes first — as Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter are experiencing as two of the biggest stars in the sport.
