Mike Farrell of the Mike Farrell Sports brand accused Coach Prime of teaching his Colorado football players to be arrogant — which was somehow not the worst thing he accused a coach of having also thrown USC’s Lincoln Riley under the bus for teaching his players to be soft.

“Coaches teach their players how to be and some are awful at it,” Farrell prefaced before saying, “Deion has taught his players to be arrogant. Lincoln Riley has taught his players to be overly sensitive. Makes you appreciate the great coaches and true molders of men.”

Reading between the lines, Farrell is aiming the two programs’ quarterbacks first and foremost. Coach Prime’s son, Shedeur Sanders, has earned a reputation for being a showboat; flashing his watch following a narrow 27-24 win over ASU and posting advertisements on his Instagram page at halftime of the Stanford loss as the Buffs were up 29-0. Caleb Williams, on the other hand, has been labeled as a sore loser after being seen crying in the stands with his mother following USC’s 52-42 loss to Washington.

With that said, Coach Prime’s other son, defensive back Shilo Sanders, has also made waves for his behavior; most notably threatening Dan Lanning ahead of CU’s eventual 42-6 loss to Oregon, the first of many this season.

Colorado football culture must improve in 2024

Whether or not it’s Coach Prime teaching them this arrogance or it’s an off-field influence, Colorado must fix its culture problem in 2024 if the Buffs want to keep Deion Sanders over the long haul.

Losing games like they did to Stanford and Wazzu implies there’s something wildly awry behind the scenes. The demotion of Sean Lewis to co-offensive coordinator and the promotion of Pat Shurmur further supports that point.

Coach Prime doesn’t have forever to fix this. The clock is, and has already been, ticking.
