Coach Prime’s Colorado football program caught a stray from The Denver Post’s Sean Keeler to boost Jay Norvell’s Colorado State Rams in a story shamelessly titled, “Jay Norvell’s CSU ain’t easy to find. But Unlike Deion Sanders’ CU Buffs, they ain’t hard to watch in November.”

“CSU lost by 26 points at home to Washington State in Week 1,” Keeler prefaced before saying, “CU just lost by 42 to those same Cougars in Week 12. Discuss. Slow and steady doesn’t always win the race. Then again, what’s the point of being easy to find if you’re so dang hard to watch?”

It’s easy to write this off as “little brother” getting its shine from the big local papers; publications that have made it a mission to take down Deion Sanders’ Buffs at every turn since he was brought on in Boulder. But there’s a larger, more insidious mission pieces like this could be aiming to accomplish as well.

Local Colorado football beat writers could be aiming to push Coach Prime away from Boulder

All season, reporters have been testing Coach Prime’s patience. And it hasn’t exactly been a secret.

“This is the toughest stretch of probably my life,” a tired and sick Sanders told reporters following CU’s 56-14 blowout loss to Wazzu on November 17 (h/t The New York Post). This was after he admitted his head was throbbing.

Sanders has had to answer questions about why he hasn’t established a run-game — as if it was his deliberate choice not to — and has had reporters try to tell him that he’s a proud Nole despite his graduation from Talladega College and alleged two-way animosity with FSU.

Do the local beat writers want Sanders in Boulder?

When articles like Keeler’s are written, it almost comes off as though the writers prefer Norvell to be hired by the Rocky Mountains’ flagship university, and Coach Prime to take his brand elsewhere.
