Thanksgiving day Colorado football commit Kam Mikell has ambitions to be the next Travis Hunter for Coach Prime’s Buffs — playing both sides of the ball in 2024 and beyond — per the Statesboro star himself.

“They now want me to start at receiver, then play some defensive back,” Mikell said (h/t On3). “They want to work me in on both sides of the ball like Travis Hunter. Seeing what they have done with him made a big impact. I would love to play both sides of the ball and not limit myself to one position. I know Colorado has a plan for me.”

That plan will likely require immediate targets with top option Xavier Weaver out of eligibility.

Kam Mikell explains his decision to commit to Colorado football

As Mikell explains, his decision to choose Colorado came down to what Coach Prime claimed would be the primary selling point for CU to recruits: wanting to play in the “Prime Time” spotlight Boulder offers in the Deion Sanders era.

“I have had Colorado up there for a while,” Mikell told On3. “I have visited three times and I have liked them from the beginning. After my last visit [to Georgia], I have just been thinking about it and working to make the final decision.

“Coach Prime and his marketing was a big part of my decision. He can really help with my brand. Coach Prime also has played all the sports I have played, he has played both sides of the ball like me and I know he can really help me. He has been in a lot of the situations I have been in, so I believe in him coaching me and helping me develop.”

Mikell is exactly the type of recruit Sanders is looking for, offering the added bonus of enthusiastically hopping on FaceTime during his commitment to see Coach Prime and his coaching staff.
