Coach Prime’s Colorado football program may have finished the 2023 season with a 4-7 record after a six-game losing streak, but many teams have seen the impact Deion Sanders can have on a program — and thus, will be looking to lure him out of Boulder.

One of the coaching jobs that have just opened up that can be of interest to him and may make him consider leaving is the job at Houston with Dana Holgorsen’s firing.

The Athletic’s Chris Vannini claimed that the job at Houston could be one that will be interesting to Coach Prime because of what they can provide to him.

“Colorado head coach Deion Sanders isn’t expected to be a candidate for Texas A&M, but a job like Houston might be a good fit, and it would fit billionaire board chair Tilman Fertitta to take a swing,” Vannini prefaced before saying, “The word is that one reason Sanders wanted Colorado to rejoin the Big 12 was to get back into Texas for recruiting. Sanders, who still lives in Texas when he’s not coaching, improved Colorado to 4-8 this year, though the Buffs lost eight of their last nine games.”

Houston is an intriguing poach threat to Colorado football

The job at Houston is truly an interesting one and that will be an easy place to get top recruits to go and play. He still does live in Texas when the season is not going on, so being home full-time is definitely something he would consider.

We should still believe he will stay with Colorado football for the time being based on his and his agent’s words, and the pleas to his sons Shedeur and Shilo to refrain from declaring for the NFL draft for another season.

At the same time, we cannot be too shocked if he does leave for the Houston opportunity because it does offer a lot of personal benefits to “Prime Time.”
