BuffZone’s Brian Howell spoke about Shedeur Sanders’ previously assumed return to Colorado football in 2024 with a hint of skepticism, potentially signaling that the 2024 NFL draft is on No. 2’s radar more than many assumed. Howell was responding to Coach Prime’s claim that every top program has the following attributes: “players, quarterback, run game, (stopping) the run.”

“Of those four things, the Buffs have one: elite quarterback Shedeur Sanders, as long as he chooses to return for his senior year in 2024 rather than enter the NFL Draft,” Howell wrote.

Ryan Staub relieved some Buffs fans’ stress about what the offense could look like without Shedeur against Utah in CU’s 2023 season finale, completing 17/24 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown. Still, there’s a greater than zero percent chance that Colorado could finish with a similar, if not worse, record in 2024 without Coach Prime’s youngest son under center.

Coach Prime pleads to Colorado football fans, boosters that he needs money to land top recruits

On November 25, Coach Prime asked Colorado’s fans and boosters directly to help him land top recruits in the offseason by donating to the Buffs4Life NIL Collective — something Deion Sanders believes is the only way to truly compete with the top programs.

“We’re getting there,” he said. “We definitely need giving. You know what I mean? It’s unfortunate to say this, but some kids cost. It’s unfortunate to say this and I have not charted this yet, but I’m gonna ask for the numbers … but if you start thinking about the top several teams in the country, let’s see what was spent on assembling the teams. We can sit and talk about great coaching and great this and great that all we want. But it’s a credit card swipe some kind of way with all these guys going into the playoffs, right? I understand that.”

This could be Sanders’ ultimatum to the University of Colorado to take football seriously since there are schools with coaching vacancies that are capable of stealing Coach Prime away from Boulder with far more resources.

Keep in mind: Sanders’ coaching legacy is on the line with every passing season, and if CU’s brain trust isn’t going to show enough urgency to help improve it, he’d be better off going elsewhere.
