Coach Prime’s Colorado football offense, one that lost co-offensive coordinator Sean Lewis to San Diego State and tight ends coach Tim Brewster to resignation, got a new OC/position coach candidate on November 28: Hue Jackson, who was fired from Grambling State after two seasons.

Jackson is a 36-year coaching veteran and a former quarterback at Pacific during his collegiate playing days. Once a SWAC counterpart to Coach Prime during his Jackson State coaching tenure, Jackson is now a viable option to help Deion Sanders get the most out of an offense that stagnated so much that they had to replace their primary play-caller midseason.

Given CU’s offensive line problems, the best coach to maximize the talents of Shedeur Sanders and the rest of the Buffs’ skill position threats would be one capable of utilizing trick plays that aren’t too gimmicky; so as to not deter No. 2 from developing into an NFL-ready quarterback by the end of the 2024 season season.

Jackson could be that — especially given his willingness to learn from Coach Prime in the past.

Hue Jackson lauded Coach Prime during pre-Colorado football days

Back on September 12, 2022, Jackson talked about how he leaned on Coach Prime at the time; but didn’t aim to emulate everything Sanders did.

“I lean on him a lot because he’s doing it at a high level,” Jackson said (h/t Monroe News-Star). ” He understands the ins and outs much more than I do, and I’ve taken a lot of his advice but at the same time I’m not modeling what anybody has done. I’m trying to do what we need to do here at Grambling State University.”

There’s an established rapport between him and Sanders and a proven history of success at both the collegiate and NFL levels.

Don’t be surprised if Jackson is in Boulder next season in some capacity.
