Michigan and LSU are primarily battling for Bryce Underwood, a “big fish” quarterback target from the 2025 recruiting class for Coach Prime’s Colorado football program, as GBMWolverine’s Chris Peterson relayed.

“The atmosphere was electric inside the Big House as Michigan football hosted five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, 2024 wideout Gatilin Bair, a Boise State commitment, and a number of other prospects in 2025 and beyond,” Peterson prefaced about the Ohio State game recruiting visit for Underwood before saying, “Underwood is the big fish. He’s the top-ranked quarterback in the 2025 class and is from Belleville. He’s been trending with expert projections to LSU, but hopefully, this visit changed things and at the very least, Michigan football made a positive impression.”

Peterson said no target was bigger than Underwood for Big Blue in 2024 or 2025.

“As good as it feels to win ‘The Game’ — the positives aren’t just about going to the Big Ten Title game and having a shot to reach the College Football Playoff, the Wolverines improved their position with a number of top targets and none is bigger than Underwood,” Peterson wrote.

Bryce Underwood would be a surprising Colorado football recruiting win

It’s not shocking to see Michigan, perhaps the strongest team still in the College Football Playoff mix, and LSU, a program a year removed from an SEC West division championship, battling for the No. 1 2025 quarterback and No. 1 overall recruit.

And given the exodus of recruits from Colorado’s 2024 and 2025 classes in recent weeks, it’s not shocking to hear nothing about the Buffs.

Underwood committing to CU would not only signify that the program is prepared to move into the post-Shedeur Sanders era, but it’d also indicate that Coach Prime truly planned on staying in Boulder to see the end of his five-year contract.

Nothing indicates that’ll be the case, though, so don’t expect Underwood to be Colorado’s first major recruiting win since they built their infamous 2023 transfer class.
