Kasen Weisman, a Douglasville, Georgia product that ex-Colorado football offensive coordinator Sean Lewis brought to Boulder, has hit the transfer portal — and according to BuffStampede’s Adam Munsterteiger, it makes sense.

“Freshman QB Kasen Weisman has entered the transfer portal after redshirting with the CU Buffs in 2023,” Munsterteiger prefaced before saying, “The Georgia product was a Sean Lewis target (at Kent State and CU) so this move makes sense.”

Weisman can follow Lewis to San Diego State, where the demoted Buffs play-caller was hired following the dismissal of Brady Hoke, and according to USA Today’s Brent Schrotenboer, Colorado offensive line coach Bill O’Boyle — who may not be long for Boulder — could also follow Lewis after previously working with him at Kent State in the same role.

Colorado football QB de-commit referenced problems behind the scenes in decision to ditch CU

Another Lewis QB recruit who decided Boulder wasn’t for him after the ex-Kent State head coach was Cathedral’s Danny O’Neil, who referenced problems behind the scenes at the University of Colorado that caused him to de-commit.

“I’ll just say that I don’t know much of it is public knowledge, but there are some things going on behind the scenes with the possibility of coaching changes and instability across the board,” O’Neil said on November 27 in an interview with IndyStar. “I don’t want to go into (a program) and lose a head coach or a coordinator.

“For the longest time, Colorado checked all the boxes. They had a stable coaching staff and everything about it is a great school, a great business program I wanted to get into and great people. The last few weeks I’d been hearing some things and do a little investigating on my own, I’ve been told a few things and decided I should open up my recruitment.”

The turnover in Boulder may lead to more de-commits, but the hope is that whoever Coach Prime hires will bring on a replacement wave of recruits ready to take on the rebuilding challenge in Boulder.
