In response to the Colorado football program losing long-time Buffs staffer Darian Hagan, who was moved from running backs coach following the Deion Sanders hiring to an Executive Director, Community Engagement & Outreach/Football Ambassador role and will be reprising the RB coach role under Sean Lewis at San Diego State, CBS Sacramento’s Andrew Haubner proclaimed there was a five-alarm fire in Boulder; this due to the mass turnover taking place since the December 4 transfer portal opening.

“Yeah it’s a five alarm fire in Boulder now,” Haubner prefaced before saying, “Not sure how you spin this as anything other than a looming disaster.”

BuffZone’s Brian Howell had an impassioned defense of the state of CU, pointing out that Hagan simply didn’t have the opportunity to be a running backs coach at Colorado while claiming that that kind of turnover happens everywhere.

“Really? He was in an ambassador role this year and wants to coach,” Howell said in response to Haubner. “He doesn’t have that opportunity here. I don’t think there’s a disaster going on, but if there was, this wouldn’t be the reason.

“People gotta stop pretending what’s going on isn’t going on everywhere. CU’s mainly lost backups and walk-ons so far and guys they want to replace. All but one coach they’ve lost was demoted. It’s a rebuild. There’s gonna be stuff that looks ‘disastrous.'”

Colorado football losing Darian Hagan to Sean Lewis’s San Diego State staff makes it worrying

Hagan taking a running backs coach job anywhere but Lewis’s San Diego State staff would’ve made the loss less of a blow. But as it stands, it’s downright painful that a demoted coordinator is poaching multiple members of Coach Prime’s staff.

There’s a very real chance that the inner workings of Deion Sanders’ Colorado locker room could be revealed by the group during one-on-one interviews — particularly if the Buffs struggle again in 2024 and the Aztecs thrive.
