Defense and rebounding secured the victory
Terrance Brown and Don McHenry provide Utah with a very solid backcourt, but Colorado forced them to take tough shots.
Brown scored 16 points on 5-of-17 shooting, while McHenry added 24 points on 9-of-22 shooting.
As a unit, Colorado held the Utes to 39% shooting from the field, including a +6 margin in the rebounding category.
Keanu Dawes provided a spark for Utah, scoring 16 points while adding seven rebounds and two assists.
Dawes, Brown, and McHenry accounted for 56 of Utah's 73 points.
Utah lacked production from bench unit
Utah's Brown and McHenry were expected to provide production, but it would be up to their bench unit to make a difference.
Only eight points were scored by the bench.
Meanwhile, Colorado's bench scored 33 points. Colorado's true freshman Isaiah Johnson scored 12 points on 3-of-6 shooting, adding four rebounds and one block.
Alon Michaeli bounced back from a woeful shooting performance against Arizona State. He scored 10 points on a 3-of-6 shooting effort, adding six rebounding and two assists.
Bangot Dak and Sebastian Rancik were difference makers
Bangot Dak is a raw prospect who can surprise you on any given night. With 16 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks, Colorado's forward posted a double-double in the win.
Sebastian Rancik was stellar from the charity stripe, shooting a perfect 9-of-9. Aside from scoring 19 points on 5-of-11 shooting, the sophomore also contributed four rebounds, two assists, and two blocks.
Point guard Barrington Hargress scored nine points and dished out five assists in the win.
