The Buffs fell behind by 14 early, continuing their recent problematic patterns in a 72-61 loss on the road against West Virginia.
3 takeaways from Colorado's third-straight conference loss
Rebounding has been an issue
The Buffs managed to just turn the ball over six times Saturday afternoon, which is a positive sign for the team after the past few games.
The team surrendered 38 rebounds to the Mountaineers, including 11 offensive boards.
West Virginia dominated the boards, outrebounding the Buffs 38-22 (+16). Brenen Lorient and Harlan Obioha grabbed nine rebounds each.
Treysen Eaglestaff had a day
Honor Huff was atop the Buffs' scouting report with 14 points, shooting 4-of-9 with two three-pointers.
Treyson Eaglestaff had a breakout game. The ex-North Dakota forward scored 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting with a trio of threes,
Lorient and Obioha scored in double figures as well, scoring 12 and 10 points respectively.
Lack of a bench presence
When Colorado gave true freshman Isaiah Johnson for his first collegiate start Saturday afternoon, it left a noticeable gap in the team's bench firepower.
Johnson posted 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting, including three rebounds and two assists in the loss.
The bench scored only 11 points, shooting a dismal 1-for-8 from beyond the arc. Alon Michaeli managed five points on 2-of-8 shooting. Felix Kossaras, benched in favor of Johnson, contributed six points.
Elijah Malone's role continues shrinking, with just two points in nine minutes before fouling out. Tad Boyle faces a tough dilemma regarding the starting center position.
