It's going to be a wild coaching carousel, and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders will undoubtedly be linked to multiple jobs in this cycle. That's a reality that Buffaloes fans aren't unused to. The media set a ticking clock on Coach Prime's time in Boulder the moment he stepped on campus.
In the Transfer Portal era, the coaching carousel gets started earlier and earlier. We are in mid-October, and the following Power Four jobs are already open:
- Virginia Tech
- Stanford
- UCLA
- Oklahoma State
- Arkansas
- Penn State
- Florida
Florida is the latest - and far from the last job to come open - with the Gators finally making the move to fire Billy Napier after a disappointing 3-4 start to the season.
Coach Prime has already been linked by some to the Arkansas job due to his relationship with prominent Arkansas booster and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. There's been little fire to follow that smoke, but on Sunday, the immediate aftermath of Napier's firing, Sanders was listed as a candidate for the Florida job by Dan Orlovsky:
Really liked Billy. Just didn’t win enough.

Dan Orlvosky lists Deion Sanders as a top candidate for Florida job opening
If Florida is interested in Coach Prime, it's not much of a logic leap to believe he would be interested back. Florida is one of the best jobs in college football with resources far beyond what Colorado can offer. There is no doubt the Buffs would pony up the cash to try and keep Sanders, but the lure of a big-time SEC job could be too much to pass up.
Though it would be a bit awkward to see Sanders, a Florida State legend, on the sidelines at Florida, there's no doubt that the allure of coaching at a program like that will be appealing to some of the nation's top coaches.
Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin is expected to be the top candidate for the job, but it will be tough to pull him out of Oxford. If they miss on Kiffin, Florida could look to make a splash hire elsewhere.
It might be a stretch to think Coach Prime would be a serious candidate at Florida. It may not be as much of a stretch to see him as a candidate for another potential job opening in the Sunshine State.
Mike Norvell seems to be a dead-man walking in Tallahassee, and it appears to be only a matter of time before the Florida State job comes open. Sanders would definitely be on the shortlist at his alma mater, and if the Seminoles made a serious push for him, there's unlikely anything Colorado could do to retain him.
Brace yourselves. Things are going to get crazy.
