Buck Buchanon will handle long-distance field goals this season

It looks like Colorado finally has its answer for long-distance field goals and kickoffs. Enter Buck Buchanan, the transfer from Louisiana Tech with a cannon for a leg.

Buchanan arrives in Boulder with an impressive resume, particularly when it comes to kickoffs. Over the past two seasons, he racked up 101 touchbacks on 117 attempts. That’s the kind of consistency the Buffs have been missing. Last season, Colorado’s touchback rate ranked near the bottom of the Big 12, forcing the defense into tough field position battles. Buchanan should put an end to that immediately.

But it’s not just about kickoffs. Head coach Deion Sanders has already been raving about Buchanan’s range. "I just watched this guy kick the other day, it was ridiculous," Sanders said. "He was kicking field goals from kicking off, it was crazy." That’s high praise from Coach Prime, and it makes sense. Buchanan nailed a 57-yarder at Louisiana Tech and connected on multiple kicks from 50-plus yards.

In 2025, Colorado’s offense will have a major weapon in Buchanan. When the Buffs stall around the 40-yard line, he gives them a legitimate chance to put points on the board—something they lacked last season. If he can bring that same consistency to Boulder, the Buffs’ special teams just got a whole lot better.
