This is what March is all about, folks!
With the Colorado Buffaloes shocking 69-67 victory today over TCU, the Buffs will now get a shot at payback. Next up? A second-round showdown in the Big 12 Tournament against the team that embarrassed them back in January—the West Virginia Mountaineers.
You better believe the Buffs have this one circled. When these teams met in Boulder earlier this season, West Virginia’s Javon Small put on an absolute clinic, dropping 26 points and leading his squad to a 78-70 win. But that was then, and this is now. This version of the Buffaloes have a little fight in them, and they’re not about to back down.
Tuesday’s win over TCU proved they’re not rolling over just yet. Andrej Jakimovski came up huge with 18 points and seven boards, while Julian Hammond III added 16 points to keep the Buffs in it. They’ll need another gutsy performance like that to take down the Mountaineers.
Slowing down Small will be priority number one. The dude has been one of the most electric scorers in the conference, and if CU lets him get going, it could be a long afternoon. But if the Buffs can play the kind of gritty, scrappy basketball they showed against TCU today, they’ve got a real shot to flip the script.
Let’s be honest—nobody expected Colorado to make noise in this tournament. But this is March, where madness happens. The Buffs have a golden opportunity to make some revenge and send WVU packing.
And wouldn’t that be sweet?
