What does Deion Sanders think he could be doing better? No, not clock management, though I'm guessing every Colorado fan stood up and screamed that like they were guests on Family Feud.
Coach Prime's clock management has befuddled Colorado fans since he took over as head coach in 2023. It bit them in the season-opening loss to Georgia Tech, but Sanders could never quite bring himself to own up to that gaffe.
Instead, Sanders believes he should be asking for more - and accepting less. Colorado has a talented roster, but that talent has not led to results. The Buffs are 2-3, likely already out of the Big 12 race, and facing an uphill battle to even garner bowl eligibility.
Something has to change for them, quickly, or this season is going to be a disappointment.
“Be more demanding," Sanders said about what he could do better. "I wanna see what I wanna see and we’re gonna do it over and over again until I see it.”
Can a more 'demanding' Coach Prime produce the needed results for Colorado?
Through five weeks, Colorado is far from the team it wanted to be this season. Most realistic fans expected a step back as they replaced Shedeur Sanders at QB and looked for ways to fill the irreplaceable shoes left behind by Travis Hunter.
But that doesn't mean that being 2-3 so far isn't disappointing. It is. This is a talented roster, but things just haven't clicked for them to reach their full potential. It's getting late fast for the Buffs. With seven regular-season games to go, Colorado needs to go 4-3 down the stretch to reach the six wins needed to go to a bowl game.
Colorado let one get away against BYU last Saturday. That's the second time you could say that this season. They let one get away against Georgia Tech in the opener, too, by not taking more advantage of three first-quarter turnovers by the Yellow Jackets.
This season has been full of 'what ifs?' - and Colorado keeps finding themselves on the wrong side of them.
Sanders will lead Colorado on the road for the second time this season as they face off with TCU on Saturday. Two years ago, the Horned Frogs served as a jumping-off point for the Coach Prime era. An upset win by the Buffs showed the potential of what this program could be.
In year three, has Colorado already peaked under Coach Prime? Or can he right the ship and lead them further?
