Since taking over at Colorado, Coach Prime has flipped the script on recruiting. Unlike most head coaches, he hasn’t made a single in-home visit to high school recruits. Instead, he’s banking on his brand, NFL legacy, and Boulder’s facilities to do the heavy lifting.
Rather than sitting on a recruit’s couch, Sanders flies players out to experience Colorado firsthand. It’s a bold move, and according to Coach Prime, it’s also cost-effective.
"I'm a business man, so I try and save the university on money with flights," he said in 2024.
Critics argue that skipping home visits may hurt CU's ability to land top high school talent. Others believe Sanders’ reputation is enough to draw elite players without traditional tactics.
And let’s be honest—if you’re a top recruit, would you rather have Coach Prime sit on your couch or fly you out to Boulder to hang out with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Lil Wayne?
Just as the late Bill McCartney use to say, "If you can get them to see Boulder, you can get anybody."
