The off-field issues he has faced have kept Boo Carter from reaching his full potential at Tennessee for the past two years.
According to reports, Carter missed workouts and skipped a game against New Mexico State in November, resulting in his dismissal from the team.
In addition, he missed team functions and summer workouts, leaving Tennessee with a bad taste in its mouth.
According to Carter, he said he informed coaches about a hip injury, which resulted in his dismissal.
In this case, the situation seems eerily similar to the Cormani McClain situation in Colorado, in which the defensive back missed classes, showed up late to team meetings, and just wasn't prepared to play.
He was heavily recruited in 2024 by Colorado, and the team was even named a finalist in recruiting him.
A two-way star at Tennessee Class 6A, Carter was named Mr. Football with 1,975 all-purpose yards and 27 touchdowns. His 102 tackles and two interceptions led him to be similar to Travis Hunter, who played both sides of the ball.
As a cornerback and return specialist, Carter was named to the 2024 Freshman All-SEC team. He even earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors in October of 2024.
Aside from 35 tackles, Carter recorded three tackles for a loss, one sack, one interception, and three quarterback hurries. The return game featured him as well, returning 12 punts for 198 yards.
Carter's versatility makes him an appealing prospect and an ideal fit for this Colorado defense.
It's just a matter of giving him a supportive environment to thrive in and get the most out of him, and hopefully Colorado can provide it.
