Yahoo Sports calls Colorado football 'Biggest winners of the day' in Week 10
The stars are aligning for Colorado football this season.
The week prior, Deion Sanders and Co. clinched a berth to college football's postseason via bowl eligibility after a 34-23 win against Cincinnati. CU was rolling in with confidence into the bye week. All they needed to make this a sure shot was two teams on the board losing.
It was a pretty wild assumption since we are talking about No. 11 Iowa State, who took on Texas Tech with an undefeated record, and No. 17 Kansas State, who beat Colorado earlier in the season. Thanks to the unpredictability of college football this season, the unimaginable underdog trend manifested. Texas Tech brought down Iowa State, 23-22, and K-State lost a 24-19 shocker in Houston.
How does their loss ensure Colorado's uninterrupted road to the playoff? Colorado must end their season as a top-12 team in the College Football Playoff Rankings to get to the bowl game.
All they could do in Week 10 was watch other teams like K-State and Iowa State lose a game, which they did this Saturday.
This shift is predicted to further push the Buffs up standings.
This is precisely why Yahoo Sports honored Deion Sanders and Co. as "The biggest winners of the day," despite Colorado being in their second bye-week.
Colorado football's only problem moving forward is Texas Tech
Everything worked out in Colorado's favor in Week 10. It was borderline too good to be true. But on the flip side, the wildly unpredictable nature of this season, the Buffs' remaining games are still toss-ups.
Remember though, Texas Tech, a team with longshot odds against Iowa State, beat a higher-ranked team. They'll aim to do the same against Colorado; which can't take another loss if it wants a shot at the College Football Playoff.
