Spring practice will be back in Boulder on March 11th, and with it comes one of the most anticipated moments of the offseason—the annual Colorado Buffaloes Black & Gold Game. Per usual, fans will pack Folsom Field, eager to get a first glimpse of what’s in store for the upcoming 2025 season.

However, let’s be honest, there’s really only one thing on everyone’s mind: the quarterback battle between Julian 'Ju Ju' Lewis and Kaiden Salter.

This will be the first chance for Buffs Nation to see these two quarterbacks compete under the bright lights—and, hopefully, under the Colorado sun. The past two spring games during the Coach Prime era have been marked by cloudy and snowy weather, but this time, I’m hoping for clear skies and a perfect day for football.

Despite harsh conditions, last year’s game still drew an impressive 28,424 fans, while the 2023 contest shattered records with 47,277 in attendance, proving that Buffs Nation will show up no matter what.

With another high-profile recruiting class and a roster featuring both young talent and key returning players, the 2025 edition is expected to continue the trend of strong fan attendance. CU Athletics has already reported a 97% renewal rate for season tickets over the past two years, showing just how much excitement surrounds the program.

Beyond the QB battle, the Buffs spring roster is stacked with 30 newcomers from both high school and the transfer portal. Five-star quarterback Julian Lewis headlines the group, while transfers like Alabama’s Jehiem Oatis and Liberty’s Kaidon Salter add experienced depth. Fans will also get a look at standout returners like Jordan Seaton and Drelon Miller.

At the end of the day, it’s all about competition. The Spring Game is a proving ground, and for Lewis and Salter, it’s the first chance to make a statement. So let’s hope for good weather, some fireworks on the field, and a whole lot of answers as we inch closer to the season.
