Colorado’s outlook after Big 12 Tournament run ends early against Oklahoma State

This has largely been Colorado's story this season, as they often face an uphill battle in the rebounding department.

Colorado also was without Sebastian Rancik, who missed his third consecutive game Tuesday night due to an undisclosed injury. The Buffs had hoped to have him back for the second round against TCU if they advanced.

Despite outshooting Oklahoma State from the field and beyond the arc, the Buffs fell to the Cowboys due to a -13 rebounding margin and 15 offensive rebounds allowed. Oklahoma State guard Christian Coleman led all players with 14 rebounds, which proved crucial in the Cowboys' victory.

The Cowboys had three players score in double figures, led by guard Anthony Roy, who scored 24 points on 6-of-9 shooting and went 10-of-11 from the charity stripe.

Colorado received a strong performance from Bangot Dak, who added a team-high 22 points, eight rebounds, two steals, and three blocks. Barrington Hargress also contributed significantly, adding 18 points and nine assists.

The Buffs' freshman class provided a boost with Isaiah Johnson's 14 points, Ian Inman's 11 points, and Jalin Holland's 9 points. Johnson did struggle though, shooting 5-of-15 from the field and just 2-of-9 from beyond the arc in his first taste of postseason play.

Colorado's season could extend into the NIT if they are selected. While head coach Tad Boyle's stance on postseason play is unclear, the team exceeded expectations this year, doubling their conference win total from last season.

The top priority for Colorado should be retaining their freshman core and developing them as a cohesive unit. Coach Boyle also needs to address the front court, which was a significant weakness throughout the season.

Elijah Malone will not be on the roster next season, and he only played substantial minutes due to Rancik's late-season injury. The Buffs are left with Tacko Fawaz, who is still developing his college game, and Leonardo van Elswyck, who redshirted this past season.

Boyle will need to find a reinforcement or two in that department through the transfer portal to give Colorado an edge next season.
