After a year at Jacksonville State and two seasons at Colorado, it's no wonder that Deion Sanders and Travis Hunter have a special relationship. The coach and phenom two-way player went through a lot together.
Over the year, Sanders basically adopted Hunter as one of his own, adding the wideout (and cornerback) to his family, which already had three sons of its own.
While in Boulder, Hunter became one of Sanders' sons, and the Colorado head coach hasn't backed away from that relationship after the young star moved on to the next level.
Recently, Hunter welcomed his firstborn child with his wife, Leanna Lenee. In a recent press conference, Sanders made sure to dispense some of his own sage advice about being a father.
“It's funny when your son is now a father," Sanders said. "It's a beautiful thing. No matter what happens in life, let's make sure we are the best darn father that ever walked."

The love and care that Sanders feels for his players has never been a secret, repeatedly referring to members of his team as his sons. However, it's always special to see that bond extend beyond the football field and past the athletes' time in college.
Hunter's own father was recently incarcerated and heartbreakingly missed most of his son's collegiate career, including being barred from the Heisman Trophy ceremony in 2024. However, he was able to attend the 2025 NFL Draft and watch as his son became the second overall pick.
The former Buffalo easily made the Jacksonville Jaguars' 53-man roster, earning a spot as a WR1 and CB2 on the team's depth chart.
Sanders' own sons, Shilo and Shedeur, also made their way into NFL fall camps, but Shilo was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Meanwhile, Shedeur was signed to the Cleveland Browns' 53-man roster as the QB3, behind Joe Flacco and former Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel.
