The new reality in college football is that your roster is going to look drastically different year over year. Not only do you have to recruit new players, you have to re-recruit your own guys.
Every program is going to have a dozen or more players enter the Transfer Portal after the season. You have to have that kind of turnover so you can find your own portal gems. And not many have utilized the portal to greater success than Deion Sanders. He flipped the Colorado roster immediately upon arriving in Boulder and turned a program that was a doormat into one that could contend with anyone in the Big 12.
Coach Prime is obviously aware of this reality. And he's taking steps that no other coach in the country is taking to look out for the guys on Colorado's roster that will inevitably be hitting the portal as soon as possible after the season.
During the Colorado bye week, Sanders put together a scrimmage for the bench players so they could have an opportunity to put highlights on film that might make them attractive to a new destination:

All coaches say they care about their players - Deion Sanders consistently proves it
Things like this are why Coach Prime is so loved by the kids who come and play for him. It's why parents trust him with their kids. He cares about them on a deeper level than just the wins and losses that come with them. He wants them to succeed in life - whether that's with the Buffaloes or somewhere else.
“A lot of you guys that don’t get to play, you’re going to get your chance today,” Sanders said. “This is your chance because I’m not crazy enough to think that all of you are going to be in this room next year. Some of you are going to jump in the portal. This is an opportunity for you to get some portal film. I’m the kind of coach that is going to make sure that we cut it, hype it up, give it to you however you want it to make sure that you’re looking good in your portal tape."
Undoubtedly, someone somewhere is going to find a way to criticize Sanders for this. They always find fault in what he does, one way or another.
But this is just another way Coach Prime continues to show his true character. This is why people want to play for him, coach for him. This is why, even at 2-4, Colorado was able to beat Iowa State last week.
He proves to his guys that he cares about them, and in turn, they play hard for him. It's things like that which will eventually lead him to even greater success in Boulder.
