Deion Sanders is most certainly a prominent figure in not just the college football world, but the national media as a whole. Such fame often includes risk, including consistent threats on one’s life -- and Coach Prime is no exception.
A member of Sanders’ security detail confirmed in an episode of "Coach Prime,” Sanders’ very successful TV show, that Sanders received a “credible threat” on his life ahead of the Buffaloes’ September 14th matchup against rival Colorado State.
The officer confirmed that they’d received "multiple threats concerning people trying to do harm to Coach."
He went on to say "There was a very credible threat — two individuals trying to possibly tackle Coach either before, during, or after the game,. So we had to have multiple law enforcement agencies there — SWAT team, CSUPD as well as Boulder PD."
This is nothing new to Sanders’ security detail, as they’re quoted as saying, "Everybody doesn’t love Coach. With all of the death threats, I don’t know who is who. I’ve got one job, and that’s to make sure that Coach is good, to make sure he’s safe so that he can go out and coach the team to a victory."
It’s interesting to think about how much time Coach Prime must spend hearing about threats on his life. After all, the detail specified “all of the death threats,” insinuating that this is something of a regular occurrence.
As such, it’s even more impressive that Sanders finds himself on the field every Saturday, despite his ever-vigilant security detail. During the game, his detail must keep their “head[s] on a swivel” to protect Sanders.
Coach Prime’s security is competent. After all, no threat has come to fruition yet, largely in part to their efforts. But the Colorado head coach has found himself with one more significant thing to think about, making his transformation of the Buffaloes that much more impressive.
