Deion Sanders needed only 3 words to describe what he needs from Colorado's QBs

Through three weeks, the season has not gone like Colorado coaches, players, or fans had hoped. There are many reasons as to why, but perhaps the most glaring issue has been an unsettled QB situation and a lack of any sort of identity on offense.

Colorado's issues left Deion Sanders speechless after Friday night's 16-point road loss to Houston to open Big 12 play.

Now, Colorado will host Wyoming this weekend in a final "tune-up" game before finishing the year with eight straight Big 12 opponents. Make no mistake about it, however: Wyoming is good enough to beat Colorado if the Buffs don't play better than they have so far this year.

The biggest question mark heading into Saturday's game is who Coach Prime will start at quarterback.

Sanders told the media today that he knows who that guy is going to be. He won't reveal it, but he did reveal what he needs to see from whoever it is under center for the Buffaloes:

"Leadership and consistency," Sanders said. "That's it. That ain't much to ask for, is it? Leadership and consistency. I'm looking for that for everyone."

Colorado's offense has been anything but consistent in 2025

Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter started the first two games of the season, but the Buffs' offense could never really get going. Despite Georgia Tech turning the ball over three straight times in the first quarter of the season opener, Colorado only produced seven points out of it. They were manhandled at the line of scrimmage, and too many missed opportunities by Salter and the offense led to a frustrating loss.

Sanders gave freshman Julian Lewis a shot against Delaware, but the youngster looked overwhelmed. In a surprising move, third-stringer Ryan Staub entered the game, performed well, and then earned the start last week against Houston. Staub played the whole away against the Cougars, but wasn't nearly good enough to put Colorado in a position to win the game.

Staub's missed opportunity probably leads to Salter being back at quarterback this weekend against Wyoming. The Buffs have to establish an identity on offense, and that starts with consistency at the quarterback position.

Coach Prime hasn't lost confidence in his team, even though most fans are ready to throw in the towel after just three games.

"We're getting there," Sanders said. "And we're gonna get there...Maybe Saturday, maybe a couple games after that, but we're gonna get there with the consistency that we desire. I can see it. We're gonna get there."
