Deion Sanders' Colorado football program is Alamo Bowl-bound to face BYU in a battle of Big 12 Championship Game snubs. On the road to Shedeur Sanders, Shilo Sanders, Jimmy Horn Jr., and Travis Hunter's final game as Buffs, Coach Prime shouted out the latter for his expected Heisman win and claimed Colorado would not be taking any shortcuts.
“We don’t tap out. We don’t sit out. It’s a blessing to play this wonderful game. Our kids are going to play," Sanders said (h/t DNVR's Scott Procter).
“Matter of fact, we’re gonna pick up the Heisman Trophy this week and he’s gonna play.”
CU has little to lose anymore, but a win would give Coach Prime his first 10-win season at the FBS level. It's been a remarkable turnaround from a four-win campaign last year; itself a remarkable turnaround from a one-win season in 2022.
Getting a win over one of the Big 12's best teams from this season, a BYU team that beat a College Football Playoff team, SMU, would cement 2024 as a complete success. Sanders still hasn't ended a season on a win as a coach. Doing so with his two sons, Hunter, and Horn, not to mention a slew of transfers brought in on one-year NIL deals, would be special.
One would imagine that the focus CU has had all season will be present in preparation for the Alamo Bowl. As this paradigm shift-causing Buffs group go through their last game preparation, the third 10-win season as a program this century potentially awaits on the other side.
