After speculation surrounding his health and absence from the Colorado football program sprang up yesterday, Coach Prime took to social media Wednesday morning and delivered the kind of update only he could deliver: spiritual, confident, and distinctly him.
“I can assure you all that everything is OKAY and will continue to be so,” Sanders wrote on X. “God got me like no other. I have so much more work to do to Glorify God… I’M COMING BABY.”
The message was nice to see this morning. Coach had been quiet since the spring game in April, and understandably so—he told former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel on a recent podcast that he’s lost 14 pounds and has been battling a wave of physical exhaustion unlike anything he’s dealt with before.
For someone who’s already survived blood clots and toe amputations, that says a lot.
Sanders is currently resting at home in Texas with his oldest son, Deion Jr., who said on a YouTube livestream last week that his father will speak more on what he’s been going through when the time is right.
“He’ll tell y’all soon enough,” Deion Jr. said. “When we get back to Boulder, I don’t know. I’m waiting until my dad leaves. When he leaves, then I’ll go. Until then, I’m gonna sit here with him.”
That kind of loyalty speaks volumes about the Sanders family—and it’s a stark contrast to what we’re hearing from Shedeur.
Back in May, Shedeur Sanders admitted he’s barely spoken to anyone in his family since being drafted by the Cleveland Browns. Since then, he’s locked in—some would say obsessively so.
Shedeur declined to answer questions yesterday about his dad’s health, brushing it off with:
“I’m here not to talk about pops and them… I’m focused on learning this playbook.”
It might come off cold, but the message is clear: Shedeur is all-in on proving himself in Cleveland. Whether that pursuit of excellence has created emotional distance between him and Coach Prime—or whether it's just misunderstood from the outside—only they know.
While Sanders rests and Shedeur builds his new NFL identity, Colorado is in full offseason mode. The team is working through summer training under new strength coach Andreu Swasey, with the expectation that fall camp kicks off late July.
Sources close to the program believe Prime will return in time for Big 12 Media Days in Frisco, Texas (July 8–9). Whether he’s physically at 100% or not, his presence at that event will make headlines.
Coach Prime is still at war with his own body, but he still knows he’s got unfinished business on the sideline and in the hearts of Colorado fans.
He’s not asking for sympathy. He’s not making excuses.
He’s just letting us know: the mission isn’t over. That fires me up.
