Mike Farrell (of the Mike Farrell Sports brand) believes Deion and Shedeur Sanders' influence has changed Travis Hunter after the two-way Colorado star downplayed Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty's accomplishments this season.
"I like Travis Hunter, he seems like a good kid and he’s an exceptional talent and my Heisman vote right now," Farrell prefaced before saying, "But being surrounded by selfish and ego centric people can bleed into your persona. Is that what’s happening here?"
Jeanty is the biggest threat to Hunter's Heisman odds and is metaphorically and literally running away with the award as things stand now. That's why Hunter went on the "Outta Pocket with RGIII" podcast and called Jeanty a "running back that's good."
“I know I can win it, but I don’t know who’s there,” Hunter told RGIII and his wife Grete. “I mean y’all see Ashton Jeanty, it’s not like we haven’t seen a running back that’s good. We haven’t seen a player that plays both ways and I’m gonna keep saying that.
“He has, I think, 95 carries for 1,000 yards. If I had 95 catches, how much yards you think I’d have? If I had 95 targets on defense what you think I’d have? If I had 95 catches on offense, what do you think I’d have?”
Travis Hunter living up to all the hype, and evidently buying it too
Hunter is so good that it's shocking he hasn't shown a self-righteous streak sooner. But after seeing No. 12 act humble in his rise to superstardom, it's a bit jarring to see his attitude do a complete 180 now.
Clearly, Hunter is buying the hype that he's been living up to this season. With Coach Prime overseeing his every move, that's not shocking.
Perhaps we should get used to this new Hunter as he gets ready to become an NFL pro shortly.
