Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward are the 1 and 1A QBs in the 2025 NFL draft. Well, at least to many. Not everyone is sold that the two quarterbacks are equal in value to franchises in need of a cornerstone under center.
ESPN's Jordan Reid believes Ward is a "wizard" with the football and prefers Miami's Heisman candidate over the "Grown QB."
“That’s the big question that the Tennessee Titans have to answer with the No. 1 overall pick. Do I select Cam Ward of Miami? Or do I go with Shedeur Sanders of Colorado?” Reid said on SportsCenter Tuesday night, per On3. “Stylistically, they could not be any [more] different from each other. Shedeur Sanders is more of your prototypical pocket passer that wins from the pocket with his accuracy and his ball placement.
“But with Cam Ward, he’s just a wizard with the football. You see the improvisational skills that he has. You can bring up the Florida tape. There’s so many different other games that you can bring up with Cam Ward.
“What I love the most about Cam Ward is that every single stop he’s been at – whether it’s Incarnate Word in the FCS ranks, Washington State or, most recently, at Miami – he’s had a profound impact. I love him having that type of impact, and I believe he can have that impact with the Tennessee Titans with the No. 1 overall pick.”
Shedeur was once thought to have a freefalling draft stock. The conclusion of the NFL season has seen a massive narrative shift, though. Now, it appears he, Ward, and Travis Hunter are all locks to go in the top three.
We'll see if things change between now in the draft. It's no guarantee Deion Sanders will have Shedeur and Hunter attend the NFL Scouting Combine.
