ESPN was all about Colorado on Saturday night. Before the Buffs were given wall-to-wall coverage at BYU's expense during the Alamo Bowl, Travis Hunter was being called the "best pure football player" in the 2025 NFL draft by Matt Miller.
“I’ll say this right now: I’ve never evaluated a player like Travis Hunter,” Miller said on SportsCenter, per On3. “I would bet that most people haven’t. (He’s) someone who can go out and catch 92 passes, 14 touchdowns over 1,100 yards at receiver and be the best cornerback in the nation with four interceptions, when people were just completely avoiding his side of the field.
“He’s a great athlete, he’s a 4.0 student, he has a love of the game that has him playing more snaps than anyone in college football history. I think Travis Hunter is a special player that has to be in consideration as the best pure football player in this draft.”
CU was outclassed on Saturday night by BYU during the 36-14 blowout, but Hunter was still elite in his role. No. 12 had four catches for 106 yards and a touchdown. On defense Hunter had four solo tackles, dispelling the notion that he wasn't active on that side of the ball.
Of course, when Hunter was being criticized for a lack of tackles, a lot of that had to do with the ball carrier avoiding his part of the field. But I digress.
While most of the talk surrounds Shedeur Sanders going No. 1 in the draft, depending on who has that pick, Hunter could be the first off the board.
