The Colorado Buffaloes are facing a major shakeup as two key members of their coaching staff, Phil Loadholt and Vincent Dancy, have accepted positions at Mississippi State. The departures mark a significant loss for head coach Deion Sanders’ program, which relied on their expertise during a transformative 2024 season.

Phil Loadholt, who served as Colorado’s offensive line coach, has been a cornerstone in developing the Buffs’ offensive trenches. Known for his NFL pedigree and ability to connect with players, Loadholt’s contributions were critical in solidifying CU's line during a year that brought national attention to the team. His departure to Mississippi State, where he will reunite with head coach Jeff Lebby as the Bulldogs’ offensive line coach, leaves a substantial void in Colorado’s staff.

Vincent Dancy, a Shuqualak, Mississippi native, brought a wealth of defensive knowledge to the Buffaloes. After serving as a defensive quality control analyst in 2023, he took charge of the defensive ends in 2024, showcasing his ability to mentor and develop players. His move to Mississippi State as the defensive ends and outside linebackers coach highlights his growing reputation as a valuable defensive mind.

The loss of these two coaches presents a challenge for Sanders as he works to maintain the momentum built during his tenure. Both Loadholt and Dancy were instrumental in establishing the team’s identity and fostering a culture of growth and discipline.

"Phil’s background as both a player and coach is exceptional," said Lebby in a statement regarding Loadholt’s hiring. "His ability to connect with players and develop talent will be invaluable to our program." Loadholt’s time under Sanders at Colorado showcased his ability to build a cohesive offensive line, making him a key addition to Mississippi State’s efforts to dominate the trenches.

Dancy’s addition bolsters a defensive unit that already features Coleman Hutzler as defensive coordinator and David Turner coaching the interior defensive line. His expertise complements the team’s focus on becoming more physical and disciplined in the trenches.

The Bulldogs, coming off a 2-10 season in Lebby’s first year, are determined to turn things around. During signing day, Lebby emphasized the importance of staff enhancements to elevate the team’s performance. With the hirings of Loadholt and Dancy, the Bulldogs signal a clear intent to build a stronger foundation moving forward.

Both coaches were present for Colorado’s recent bowl game against BYU before committing to their roles at Mississippi State. They are expected to begin their duties in the coming days, bringing fresh perspectives and leadership to a program eager to rebound in 2025.

Replacing two experienced coaches will be a challenge for Sanders and his staff as they look to maintain momentum heading into 2025. While Colorado boasts a talented roster, continuity on the coaching staff will be essential for building on the success of the past year. The Buffs are expected to seek high-caliber replacements to fill these vacancies and continue the upward trajectory of the program.
