A wild night in Atlanta carried right into Colorado’s locker room celebration.
After the Buffaloes escaped Georgia Tech with a dramatic 14-13 victory, many videos posted across social media showed a jubilant celebration. Offensive coordinator Brennan Marion was dancing, players were soaking up the moment and athletic director Fernando Lovo had plenty of energy left to burn.
One behind-the-scenes video posted by Colorado captured Deion Sanders telling his players how much their response meant to him.
“I’m so damn proud of you. You have no idea,” Sanders said.
Coach Prime recalled his confidence on the sideline as the clock ticked down. Even with the outcome hanging in the balance, he believed the Buffs would find a way.
The celebration included game balls and an invitation for Colorado’s new athletic director to share the moment.
“This guy’s been behind us. He supported us,” Sanders said. “He’s riding with us.”
Then came the introduction.
“And this is the way you break a new AD in.”
Lovo matched the room’s energy immediately.
“Hey fellas, I’m just so damn proud of you. So damn proud of you,” he said. “Talk about believing. That’s what coach talks about all the time.”
He praised the players for delivering when Colorado needed it most.
“Y’all never flinch. You never faltered. You came down. You shoved that in the end zone.”
The video’s audio was muted immediately afterward. Whatever followed, the emotion was clear as Lovo and the Buffs soaked up a moment worth celebrating.
Amid the dancing and celebration, Sanders also reminded his team to show respect for the opponent.
“Don’t say nothing crazy about our opponents because they fought their butts off,” he said.
Sanders praised Georgia Tech’s coaching staff and reminded the Buffs to clean the locker room before leaving. Colorado could celebrate a memorable victory while showing appreciation for the team that pushed it to the final moments.
His message to the players was personal.
“I love you. I appreciate you. But more than ever, I’m proud of you and I never gave up on you.”
Colorado will look to go 2-0 when they take on the Weber State Wildcats one week from Saturday. It's the home opener from Folsom Field for the Buffs and is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. MT on ESPN+. Weber State is led by the talented transfer quarterback Devin Brown who previously was a backup a Cal and Ohio State.
