Something I've been saying needs to happen for years is finally coming to Folsom Field this fall.

For the first time in over a century of CU football, the east side of the stadium—right along the Buff Walk—will get a new permanent addition: a statue of legendary Colorado Buffaloes head coach Bill McCartney.

Coach Mac isn’t just the winningest coach in program history with 93 wins, three Big 8 titles, and a 1990 national championship to his name—he’s the man who turned Colorado into a college football powerhouse.

According to the university, CU has spent the last two years working on this project. The statue will be 8.5 feet tall from top to base, designed by Brian Hanlon—the same artist who gave us the Ralphie and handlers sculpture outside the Champions Center.

It’ll be only the second statue outside Folsom, the other being that creepy bust of Fred Folsom on the south side.

In true Coach Mac fashion, the university is also launching a scholarship endowment in his name. The funds will support CU students for generations to come—fitting for a man who always saw himself as a servant first, coach second.

“Coach Mac’s imprint on this university transcends his incredible accomplishments on the football field,” CU Athletic Director Rick George said.

Coach Mac passed away this year on January 10th. It's disappointing that he won't be able to see the statue in person, but this is an honor way overdue.

The Buff Club is currently taking donations to help finish the statue and fund the scholarship. Fans interested can visit cubuffs.com/coachmac.
