A former wide receiver from before the Coach Prime era turned to X (formerly Twitter) Thursday night to ask for a favor.

La'Vontae Shenault, the younger brother of Colorado star Laviska Shenault Jr., played for the Buffs from 2019-2021, and his time there was rocky.

In his first season with Colorado in 2019, he dressed for nine games but only played in four, preserving his redshirt for the following season.

In 2020, he finished second on the team in receiving yards with 193 during the COVID-shortened season, behind Dmitri Stanley's 335 yards.

His main problem? He couldn't stay out of trouble.

In 2020, he was suspended for the season opener against UCLA after being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

He was also suspended for the 2020 Alamo Bowl after violating department policy, and in 2021 he faced an indefinite suspension for breaking team and athletic department rules.

That appeared to be the final straw for him in Boulder. He entered the transfer portal in November and committed to Alabama State in January of '22.

Vontae caught 14 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown during the 2022 season at Alabama State. After sitting out both 2023 and 2024, he joined Northeastern State for his final year of eligibility.

Shenault exploded for a season-high 162 yards against Saginaw Valley in the season opener, then went on to finish 2025 with 75 catches for 1,044 yards and five touchdowns.

Shenault is looking for just one chance to impress scouts where he launched his career, and Coach Prime might be able to make it happen at Colorado's pro day—helping restore Vontae's reputation with the program after a disappointing stint.
