Coach Prime told us to expect some "big moves" on Colorado's coaching staff, and it looks like one may already be in motion. Former NFL quarterback and Super Bowl-winning offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich was seen at Tuesday’s practice rocking CU gear, holding a play sheet, and looking every bit like a coach in the making.

The video, courtesy of Well Off Media and Deion Sanders Jr., sent Buffaloes fans into a frenzy. While nothing has been made official yet, this feels like more than just a casual visit. Coach Prime loves bringing in NFL names to inspire the team, but when someone as accomplished as Leftwich is decked out in team apparel and engaged in practice, it's hard not to speculate.
Could this be the major coaching hire Coach Prime teased in his press conference? It sure feels like it.
Leftwich last served as the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2019 to 2022. In that span, he helped Tom Brady and the Bucs capture a Super Bowl (LV) while engineering one of the league’s most explosive offenses. Brady himself had high praise for Leftwich, as did Bruce Arians, who credited him with Tampa Bay’s offensive transformation.
Before that, Leftwich got his start in coaching with the Arizona Cardinals under Arians, working his way up from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator. His offensive mind, particularly in quarterback development, would be an incredible asset for Colorado.
Leftwich has been out of coaching since parting ways with Tampa Bay in early 2023, but that doesn’t mean the game has passed him by. He interviewed for multiple NFL head coaching jobs in recent years and remains one of the more respected offensive minds available.
If Colorado does land Leftwich, expect a major boost in offensive efficiency and quarterback play. Not to mention, it would further solidify Coach Prime’s ability to attract even more NFL talent to his staff.
