Coach Prime and the Colorado football team made headlines earlier this year when they signed top QB prospect Julian Lewis, a freshman who will now likely have to sit a year as Liberty transfer and highly sought-after QB Kaidon Salter is ready and rearing to go.

"No promises, all competition. And I am willing to come in and compete," Salter said in an interview with Jonah Javad. "JuJu is a younger guy, of course, so they wanted somebody in the room that can mentor him and help him come into college and feel comfortable. They felt like I was that guy that can do that, I also feel I am the guy that can do that.

"I met JuJu at the Elite 11 (Finals). I was an Elite 11 Counselor this year so I have met JuJu before. I recently met him again when we went out for the bowl game. Very cool dude. He is a playmaker. One of the best quarterbacks in his class. So just being able to compete and go out there and do what we have to do and help each other out, build each other up, it is all love over there and it'll be a great competition between us. There were no promises, all competition."

It’s clear Salter chose the Buffs for a reason, and it’s not to sit behind a true freshman. Salter has no shortage of experience, either; he’s spent time at both Tennessee and Liberty. Needless to say, Power 4 play is something he’s familiar with.

"With me having a last year, the experience and the exposure, I want to play under the spotlight. Colorado has the spotlight throughout college football," Salter said. "They are the most viewed team, the most hated team. I like that. I am very excited for my new journey and just being part of the team. Playing behind (Deion) Coach Prime (Sanders) and (offensive coordinator and quarterbacks) coach Pat Shurmur, is something you can't not accept and not want to be part of. The experience of the whole staff from an NFL (standpoint) is something I looked into.

"I fell in love with it. The players, the culture, the coaches, the fan base... why would I not want to go play for a team where every game is a packed out, sold-out stadium?”

Salter is likely going to be the Buffs' leader in CU's brave new post-Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter era in 2025.

The ex-Liberty star sounds excited for the opportunity.
