“They're going crazy!”
That’s what LaJohntay Wester shouted through the noise of family cheers as he answered the call that change dhis life. But for us who followed his electric 2024 season in Boulder, it was just another reminder of who Wester really is—an unbelievable story.
This time, the moment wasn’t a Hail Mary catch. It was the Baltimore Ravens on the line. But today we found out it wasn’t just any front-office voice on the other end. It was Willie Taggart—the man who coached Wester at Florida Atlantic, who is now the Ravens running backs coach.
It came full circle. And that's pretty darn cool.
Before LaJohntay Wester became a Buff, he was putting up video game numbers at FAU—racking up over 2,700 yards and 21 touchdowns. Under Taggart, he showed grit, speed, and work ethic.
Taggart knew exactly who he was getting when he made the call for the Ravens.
“You ready to come out here and do something?” Taggart asked over the phone.
Wester isn’t just a prospect—he’s a gamechanger. Forever one of our favorite players of all-time. You better believe he’s walking into Baltimore with something to prove.
When Wester transferred to Colorado, some thought he’d be just another piece in a huge wide receiver room. Instead, he became the piece.
Who could forget that wild Hail Mary against Baylor? Or his punt return touchdown against Utah that showed just how lethal he is in open space?
Wester finished the 2024 season with 74 catches, 931 yards, and 10 touchdowns—plus a few moments we’ll be telling stories about for years.
In a Buffaloes offense loaded with talent, Wester stood out because he always showed up when it mattered most. On third downs. On returns. In the clutch. That is what the NFL is always looking for.
But sixth-round picks have an uphill battle. But they do get chances. And that’s all Wester has ever needed.
Analysts at PFF believe he is going to be one of the many draft steals in this class, including his teammate Jimmy Horn Jr. with the Carolina Panthers.
Wester walks into the Ravens locker room as an undersized guy, but with a coach who is on his side and knows what they have. That's a big deal and sounds like a perfect fit.
